DNA dialogue - Prof Mary Herbert, Newcastle University

Join Australian Genomics’ DNA dialogue seminar, “Towards preventing transmission of mitochondrial DNA disease”, featuring Prof Mary Herbert from Newcastle University in the UK.

Reproductive technologies known as “Mitochondrial Donation” aim to uncouple the inheritance of the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes have the potential to enable women who carry pathogenic variants to have a genetically related child with a greatly reduced risk of developing mtDNA disease. Mary will discuss preclinical research and clinical implementation of mitochondrial donation in the UK as well as progress towards its introduction here in Australia as part of the MRFF-funded MitoHOPE initiative.
