Digital Health - Better and Faster Access

The Australian Digital Health Agency launched the Better Faster Access Program, which is a legislative initiative by the Australian Government aimed at improving access to pathology and diagnostic imaging reports in My Health Record. This program is part of a broader effort to modernize primary care and respond to patients' demands for better and faster access to their health information. The program includes a legislative requirement for pathology and diagnostic imaging reports to be shared by default in My Health Record, ensuring that patients and healthcare providers have better access to key health information when and where it is needed. Genetic test results currently have a five day delay on upload. More information can be found here.

New National Clinical Governance Committee for Digital Health drives collaboration and clinical safety

The Australian Digital Health Agency has established a national committee to strengthen clinical oversight and enable the highest standards of safety and quality in digital health.

The National Clinical Governance Committee - Digital Health (NCGC-DH) will guide Australia’s approach to emerging technologies such as virtual care and AI in healthcare. The development of the NCGC-DH marks a significant milestone in guiding the safety, quality and continuous improvement of digital health in Australia.

The NCGC-DH Expert Advisory Groups will focus on three key areas:

  • Better and Faster Access - advising on safe health information sharing to My Health Record    
  • Virtual Care and Telehealth - advising on patient safety and quality issues in virtual care and telehealth   
  • Artificial Intelligence Enabled Care - advising on the safe implementation of AI in healthcare settings.
