Genomics in Focus: Reproductive Carrier Screening

The Centre for Genetics Education is delighted to present the speciality webinar series “Genomics in Focus”.
Genomics in Focus: Reproductive Carrier Screening

Reproductive genetic carrier screening (RCS) is a genetic test for individuals and couples planning a pregnancy. This test can provide information about the chance of having a child with a significant genetic condition.

RANZCOG recommends that RCS should be offered to all women planning a pregnancy or in the first trimester of pregnancy and those wanting more information should be offered a more detailed conversation.

RCS for three conditions (Fragile X, Cystic Fibrosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy) is now available through Medicare and can be ordered by general practitioners, obstetricians and other healthcare providers.

Guest Speaker
Join midwife Dr Nasrin Javid to learn more about holding detailed conversations about RCS and learn more about existing Medicare numbers and guidelines, tips for ordering genetic tests, considerations for consent and general practical guidance about delivering genomic healthcare.
